Diabetes Camp Offered June 12-16 at Centenary Camp
(May 14, 2007) — Children age 7 to 11 with type 1 diabetes are invited to enjoy a week of fun, learning, friendship and support from Tuesday, June 12 through Friday, June 16 during the Florida Diabetes Camp at Centenary Camp outside Quincy. The Tallahassee Memorial Diabetes Center partners with the Florida Camp for Children and Youth with Diabetes each year to conduct this summer camp in the Tallahassee area.

Campers will have the opportunity to experience many traditional summer camp activities and receive diabetes education under the direction of a medically trained and knowledgeable staff. Children with type 1 diabetes who take insulin injections or are on an insulin pump are eligible to attend the camp, including youngsters who are not yet able to give themselves insulin independently. The goal of the camp is to make campers more independent in the diabetes care.

A registration fee of $400 per camper includes lodging, food and recreational and educational materials. A limited number of scholarships are available. The deadline to apply is May 29. However, applications may be accepted past this date if space is still available.
For more information on registration and scholarships, and to download an application, visit www.floridadiabetescamp.org. For further questions and information, please contact the Tallahassee Memorial Diabetes Center at (850) 431-5404.
