Cancer Center
In 1951, TMH’s cancer program was accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer, making it Florida’s longest continually accredited cancer program in the community hospital category.
Approval by the Commission on Cancer is given only to those programs that voluntarily commit to providing a comprehensive range of cancer services using a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care. This means that multidisciplinary teams of physicians and TMH staff meet in weekly cancer conferences to discuss cancer cases and coordinate care in order to provide the best treatment options for each patient. It also means that our patients have access to nationally approved clinical trials and receive lifelong patient follow-up through our Cancer Registry.” To maintain accreditation, cancer programs must undergo an on-site review every three years.
Tallahassee Memorial’s affiliation with H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa further enhances our delivery of cancer treatment services in North Florida.
The affiliation means that residents in Florida’s Big Bend region can continue to receive comprehensive cancer care from Tallahassee Memorial while having access to Moffitt for a broader range of clinical trials, specialized treatments and advanced research and technology. The partnership will also offer opportunities for local physicians to participate more easily in continuing professional education and clinical collaboration with Moffitt. |
