Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) is proud to announce it has earned accreditation by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint Quality Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

MBSAQIP standards and accreditation ensure that TMH’s bariatric surgery patients receive multidisciplinary medical care, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. MBSAQIP-accredited centers offer preoperative and postoperative care designed specifically for patients with obesity.

The accreditation exemplifies TMH’s commitment to quality care, with expertly trained staff and the leadership of three experienced bariatric surgeons: Alexander Ramirez, MD, FACS; Eliot Sieloff, MD, FACS; and Joey Jarrard, MD, FACS.

“We’re thrilled to earn accreditation from the MBSAQIP,” said Dr. Alexander Ramirez, bariatric surgeon at TMH and director of TMH’s Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Program. “It’s a testament to the high standards of our colleagues at TMH and TMH Physician Partners - Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes. We work to provide the highest quality care to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients in need of weight loss treatment or those who suffer from metabolic health conditions.”

As a result of accreditation, TMH is tasked with continuous review of bariatric surgical data to continually improve the structure and outcomes necessary to provide safe, efficacious and high-quality care to all metabolic and bariatric patients. To maintain accreditation, the program must submit an annual report to verify compliance with MBSAQUIP standards and exemplify continued quality of care.

“Earning MBSAQIP accreditation is a major accomplishment for our staff and our entire organization,” said Dr. Joey Jarrard, bariatric surgeon at TMH. “To earn this accreditation, we went through a rigorous accreditation process and had to provide an abundance of surgical data from our bariatric surgical program to demonstrate how TMH patients receive the safest and most effective surgical treatment.”

For patients in Tallahassee and throughout the region struggling with obesity and metabolic health conditions – which affect more than half the U.S. population and are often linked to other conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer – surgery can be an effective treatment. TMH Physician Partners - Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes offers bariatric surgery procedures as part of a patient’s overall treatment.

“As proud as we are to earn this accreditation for our team’s hard work, it’s truly for our patients,” said Dr. Eliot Sieloff, bariatric surgeon at TMH. “MBSAQIP accreditation provides our patients with access to the best bariatric surgical care in the region and helps to ensure the best possible outcomes for anyone who chooses to receive bariatric surgery at TMH.”
