2021 Tallahassee Tennis Challenger

A Letter from Karen Lyn Vogter
Tournament Director

Dear Tallahassee Tennis Challenger Sponsors and Friends,

As the saying goes, I have some good news and some not so good news that I’d like to share. First, the good news!

There will be a 2021 Tallahassee Tennis Challenger held in Tallahassee at the Forestmeadows Tennis Complex, April 16-25. The thought of missing two years of professional tennis in Tallahassee just felt awful, and when the USTA asked us to hold our tournament here, well, we just couldn’t say no.

Now for the not so good news. Due to the very strict COVID-19 protocols necessary to hold a Challenger tournament, we will not be able to have sponsors, fans or spectators in attendance.  It will, however, be live streamed so you will be able to watch from the comfort of your home or office.

Recently one of our longtime supporters asked, “What can I do to help? I’d like to do something. It just wouldn’t feel right not supporting you.” After this happened a couple times, I thought there might be others who feel the same way. If you are so inclined, please consider donating any amount online or sending a check payable to Tallahassee Tennis Challenger/TMH Foundation to 1331 East 6th Avenue, Tallahassee, Florida, 32303. 100% of your donation is tax deductible.

As you know, the goal of the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger has always been to reach $1 million in the D. Mark Vogter, MD Endowment for Neuro Intensive Care at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH), and we are approaching that goal. The corpus of the endowment is now at $944,069, and that is all thanks to YOU, our wonderful sponsors and fans.

We are so close to finally reaching something we have been working towards since 2004. This year the Vogter Endowment is supporting a new initiative at TMH called the Stroke Champion Program, which helps staff recognize, care for and provide education to existing and suspected stroke patients. We are so proud of the nurses and staff who have committed to this goal, along with all of their other responsibilities.

We are looking forward to getting back to normal in 2022 but until then we appreciate all your support, past and present, and hope you and yours are healthy and safe.

With sincere gratitude,

Karen Lyn Vogter
