Breastfeeding Symposium

BreastFeedingBreastfeeding requires support, education and determination. Join us for conversation on how we can lead and empower the medical community to protect, promote and support breastfeeding throughout the Big Bend.

Topics include Baby-Friendly, Breastfeeding Support, Breastfeeding Policy, Community Resources and Mother’s Own Milk.

Featuring remarks from breastfeeding expert Joan Meek, MD, MS, RD, FAAP, ABM, IBCLC.

Symposium is open to all members of the medical community.

The Florida Medical Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 2 (two) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CEU approval is pending.

Application for Continuing Education Recognition Points has been submitted to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

This symposium is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, students and engaged community groups.

Program Objectives

  • Examine reasons why women who chose to breastfeed are not achieving their own goals for duration and exclusivity
  • Describe maternity care practices in the prenatal, hospitalization period and postnatal period that can significantly impact breastfeeding rates in the community
  • Discuss population health implications for newborn /infant nutrition choices made by families
