Cancer Patient Support Services

We have developed programs focused on the emotional care of our patients.

Animal Therapy

The relationship between people and animals can have a profound effect on human health. Therapy animals calm and motivate patients and engage otherwise unresponsive ones. Our therapists and therapy animals interact with patients for improved mental health, motivation, recreation, education, rehabilitation, pain management and other therapeutic services.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is a powerful tool in the world of healing. It reduces stress, promotes healing and minimizes some negative symptoms. Our music therapy program is offered in partnership with the Florida State University College of Music.

The connection between the body and the nutrition we put in it are undeniable. Having adequate nutrition before, during and after cancer therapy can impact a person beyond just achieving weight goals. Our dedicated board certified oncology dietitian/nutritionists can provide supportive education to help patients maintain their quality of life. Our team is versed in nutrition management for cancer prevention, active treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation) and survivorship. Good nutrition can help to preserve strength and energy, lessen side effects of cancer treatment and medications, support immunity, minimize treatment delays and improve healing and recovery after active cancer therapies. To learn more or meet with our oncology dietitian/nutritionists, please call 431-4226.

Palliative Care

Our experienced inpatient palliative care team gives patients and their families the best quality of life for as long as possible when facing a life-limiting illness. The palliative care team cares for each patient in a physical, emotional, social and spiritual way. Unlike hospice care, palliative care is appropriate during any stage of a life-limiting illness, even when someone is still receiving treatment.

Spiritual Care

Our chaplains are available to patients and their families 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Chaplains are prepared to help anyone who may be feeling anxious or facing a difficult decision. The spiritual care team provides confidential patient and family support. Chaplains make contact with community clergy when a patient has specific religious requests, such as the Sacrament of the Sick (Anointing) and the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) or the services of a Rabbi. A chaplain is available at all times via a paging system at 850-489-0066.
