Capital city on front line of heart research and treatment

February is Heart Health Month, and area healthcare providers say Big Bend residents should feel reassured with the expertise available right here in Tallahassee.

In the United States today, nearly one-third of citizens will die of heart-related illness. The latest numbers show that in direct dollars, $193.9 billion go for heart disease care, compared to $88.7 billion for all cancers.

Lisa Craig of the American Heart Association says Tallahassee doesn’t escape the sobering numbers.
