Hollywood may be influencing lung cancer trends

Hollywood's copious depictions of tobacco use could have spurred a recent increase in smokers. According to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is a high correlation between tobacco users and the content they consume — especially young people.

The analysis of recent data reveals an increase in tobacco usage in films that could contribute to lung cancer's impact on a younger generation. Dr. Raj Bendre, medical director of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Physician Partners and radiation oncology specialist at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, said lung cancer is trending younger than it has ever been.
