Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Becomes First Facility in Florida to Receive the Highest Level Accreditations from ACC for Chest Pain and Atrial Fibrillation
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) became the first facility in the country to successfully complete two accreditation surveys with the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in a single day. TMH is now the only healthcare organization in Florida to hold the highest level of accreditation for a chest pain center as well as an atrial fibrillation program.
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare has been certified as a Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation based on a rigorous onsite and standards evaluation, the highest accreditation level available for chest pain centers through the ACC. Throughout the survey process, TMH demonstrated expert knowledge and care of patients experiencing chest pain, including a 24/7 percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) team to perform a non-surgical procedure to open narrowed or blocked arteries as well as a robust hypothermia program for post-cardiac arrest patients, designed to temporarily lower a patient’s body temperature to reduce the risk of brain damage.
“Both of these accreditations are highly regarded amongst medical facilities. Being the only facility in Florida to hold both accreditations speaks to the skill and expertize of the Tallahassee Memorial Heart & Vascular Center team,” explained Thomas Noel, PCI, MD, FACC, Medical Director of the Chest Pain Center at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.
A leader in the Southeast for complex cardiovascular care, the Tallahassee Memorial Heart & Vascular Center is also home to one of the top electrophysiology programs in the region. The electrophysiology program focuses on diagnosing, monitoring and treating irregular heart rhythms, including atrial fibrillation – a common arrhythmia where the heartbeat is irregular and often rapid. TMH successfully demonstrated the ability to expertly manage atrial fibrillation as well as provide full electrophysiology lab and surgical interventions for treatment, earning the program the ACC’s Atrial Fibrillation with EPS accreditation – the highest level available for this type of program.
“For quite some time, the Tallahassee Memorial Heart & Vascular Center has been committed to bringing the latest technology and exceptional care providers to Florida’s capital city to offer the best care possible for patients,” said Farhat Khairallah, MD, FACC, FHRS, Medical Director of the Electrophysiology Program at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. “Our patients travel from across the Southeast to receive care here at TMH and these new accreditations further speak to the level of care that we proudly offer at the Heart & Vascular Center.”
