Annually, more than 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke. About every 1 in 20 deaths each year are caused by stroke, reports the Centers for Disease Control. Because every second counts when treating a stroke, TMH has a neurosurgeon on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “We never miss a stroke,” smiles Dr. Beaty.
He and his colleagues, neurosurgeons Dr. Adam Oliver and Dr. Matthew Lawson, Stroke Medical Director at Tallahassee Memorial, are proud to represent the region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center, designated by the Agency for Health Care Administration. “We have a surgeon-forward, team approach,” explains Dr. Oliver. “From the moment you hit the door, we are assessing you for treatment.”
The Stroke Center has a dedicated stroke response team of three neurosurgeons and seven ARNPs/PAs that work on rotation so that someone is always available to assess stroke patients.
