What inspired you to become a psychologist?
This emerged out of several things -- my spiritual upbringing and desire to help people, and my interest in the scientific study of human behavior.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Performing music and enjoying nature.
In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a doctor-patient relationship?
Conveyance of warmth, genuineness, and empathic understanding.
What do you find most encouraging about the work you do?
The appreciation expressed by patients (for clinical activity) and colleagues (for research contributions).
Do you have any advice for the patients who see you?
Get a good night’s rest. Be prepared for mental exercise and lots of it!
What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
Helping people find solutions for some of their major problems. That’s why I’m here.
What can your patients expect from you as their doctor?
My undivided attention for several hours or more of assessment time.

Psychological factors in pain and physical symptoms; Placebo research; Clinical hypnosis.
