This is a system of therapeutic, manual manipulations of the body's soft tissues for the purpose of enhancing circulation to restore or maintain health and overall well being. Benefits include general relaxation and improved circulation.
Sports massage addresses the specific needs of athletes. Treatment can include cross-fiber friction, deep compression and trigger point therapy. Sports massage is useful during training, before or after events, to enhance performance and function or promote healing post injury.
Medical massage specifies treatments related to specific medical or health problems and is usually ordered by a physician. Medical therapeutic massage can reduce the heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, reduce muscle tension/spasm, improve range of motion, dissolve scar tissue adhesions and help relieve pain – all of which enhance medical treatment.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissues massage is muscle specific and focuses on the relief of trigger points through static pressure on tender, congested muscle fibers. It is used to improve function, reduce muscle tightness, strengthen postural muscles, protect joints and minimize stress. Deep tissue massage is often used to relieve tender or congested spots in the muscle tissue and compressed nerves that may radiate pain to other areas of the body.
Pregnancy massage provides circulatory benefits, stress reduction, improved physiological functioning, and reduced musculoskeletal pain. Pregnancy massage is also effective for labor preparation, labor facilitation and post partum recovery. The age-old use of reassuring touch provides an anchor and is an intrinsic part of nurturing and cherishing mother and child. Pregnancy massage can help to alleviate most of the common ailments of pregnancy, including nausea, back and neck ache, and insomnia.
Essentially a closed spinal hydraulic system, the craniosacral system mechanism is composed of the brain, spinal cord, bones of the scull, sacrum and interconnected membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid. Craniosacral therapists gently manipulate the cranium and the sacrum to facilitate the body in correcting misalignments in the structure of this system. Used to treat chronic pain, migraine headaches, TMJ dysfunction and especially beneficial for head or neck injuries.
