Pediatric Unit
Located on the Second Floor of the Main Hospital, our Children’s Center is comprised of a 23-bed inpatient children’s unit – the largest in the Big Bend region – and a 10-bed pediatric ICU (PICU).
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Staffed by pediatric critical care physicians, advanced providers and nurses, our PICU is the only hospital unit within 100 miles of Tallahassee specifically equipped to care for critically ill children.
Kid-Friendly Treatment
Hospital visits can be stressful for young patients. We provide:
- Engaging distraction devices (iPads, virtual reality, TVs and interactive games)
- Techniques to reduce needle pain (buzzy, numbing cream and freeze spray)
- Treatment tools specific to children (vein finder, treatment room and playroom)
Child Life Specialists
TMH is home to the only Child Life Program in the Big Bend region. Our certified child life specialists are experts in child development and kids’ reactions to hospitalization. One of the main goals of a child life specialist is to reduce stress associated with treatments and procedures by providing appropriate explanations and medical play opportunities. Learn more.
Outpatient Services
Kids Korner
Kids Korner is a special outpatient area for our young patients and is the only unit of its kind in the Tallahassee area. Located within the Children's Center, we exclusively treat children in this convenient 4-bed unit. Learn more.

Children’s Emergency Center at the Emergency Center – Northeast
Located on the second floor of the Tallahassee Memorial Emergency Center – Northeast, the Children’s Emergency Center offers special amenities for children.
Separate entrances for children and adults open to lobby areas designed for the comfort of each age group. In the children’s play area, young patients and their siblings can enjoy an iPad bar preloaded with kid-friendly games and videos. Meanwhile, a designated sick kids room provides a restful space for children who have contagious conditions. Learn more.
Pediatric Diabetes Services
Our team of specially trained nurses and dietitians works closely with pediatric patients, their families and physicians on managing their diabetes.
Initial visits to the Tallahassee Memorial Metabolic Health Center focus on education about the diagnosis and necessary lifestyle adjustments. We also offer continuous support to help children develop confidence with their care and successful diabetes self-management. Learn more.

Our pediatric rehabilitation team combines family-centric care and kid-friendly rehabilitation methods to help children and adolescents with medical, cognitive and developmental needs reach their maximum potential. Learn more.
Pediatric Orthopedic Program
TMH is home to the region’s first and most comprehensive orthopedic program just for kids. Our pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ryan Price, and pediatric physical and occupational therapists, care for all pediatric orthopedic conditions – from club foot and scoliosis to broken bones and sports injuries – to get kids back to being kids, not patients. Parents & Visitors
Hospital visits can be stressful, whether it is your first time or one of many. We want to help you plan. Upon arrival to the Children’s Center, please make sure to have your ID with you and ready for check-in at the front desk.
Visiting Hours
Family and guests are welcome 24 hours a day, according to patient/family preference. The number of people welcomed at the bedside at any one time will be determined in collaboration with the patient, family and interdisciplinary care team.
To promote patient healing and rest, we encourage families to restrict visiting hours, so your child can rest between the hours of 10 pm and 6 am.

Getting Here
To protect our young patients, the Children’s Center, including the pediatric ICU and Kids Korner, is a secure unit with a special entrance for all visitors.
Upon arrival to the Children’s Center, please make sure to have your ID with you and ready for check-in at the front desk.
To access the Children’s Center:
- Park in the main P2 Parking Garage.
- Enter the hospital and, if you are not already on the Ground floor, take Elevator F to Ground.
- Walk straight through the Atrium into the Main Hospital.
- Follow the hallways, pass the Gift Shop and turn left.As you follow around the corner, look up to find a superhero sign pointing toward Elevator D, then take a left, turning into the elevator bay.
- Take Elevator D up to the second floor.
- Upon exiting the elevators, walk toward the doors of the Children’s Center and pick up the phone for access.
