What is BMI?
BMI stands for “body mass index.” It is calculated from your height and weight. BMI is a useful way of quickly determining if you are overweight or obese and at risk for diseases that occur with high body fat.
Please note the calculator may overestimate body fat in athletes and those with more muscle and underestimate body fat in older persons who have lost muscle.
- Underweight = <18.5
- Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
- *Overweight = 25–29.9
- *Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
If you are in the “overweight” or “obese” BMI categories, the Tallahassee Memorial Bariatric Center can help you. Please contact us at 850-431-5404 for more information.
