Why Choose TMH?

High-Risk Labor & Delivery

When it comes to your family, we know peace of mind is priceless. By delivering at the region’s only high-risk labor and delivery unit, you ensure your and your baby’s care teams will be prepared to provide you the highest level of care, even in the most high-risk situations.

Baby-Friendly Hospital

We’re also proud to be the only accredited Baby-Friendly Hospital in and around Tallahassee. As an accredited Baby-Friendly Hospital, we’ve been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as a hospital that “offers an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding.”

For you and your little one, that means the highest level of individualized care for both you and your baby. Between our evidence-based practices to help you and baby bond, and the support and education you’ll receive from your experienced nursing team, you and your baby will be off to the best possible start together.

Before Your Delivery

Labor & Delivery

When coming to the Women’s Pavilion for delivery, most moms start in the Obstetric Emergency Room, where you’ll receive your initial assessment. Our team of physicians, certified nurse midwives and nurses, will evaluate you to see if you are in active labor. This is also where you’ll come to be evaluated if you experience any obstetrical concerns or emergencies when you are at least 14 weeks pregnant or more.

After the Obstetric Emergency Room, you may be admitted to one of two rooms, depending on your condition – antenatal or labor and delivery. Moms who do not yet require admission may be sent home with discharge instructions.

Obstetric Emergencies

If you experience any obstetrical concerns or emergencies when you are at least 14 weeks pregnant or more, you will come to our Obstetric Emergency Room where you’ll be evaluated and treated by our medical staff

Antenatal Care Unit

Our antenatal care unit is for women who require bedrest or extra care before they are ready to deliver. Each of these rooms has their own private bathroom, mini-fridge, TV and couch that can convert into a bed for your support person.
