Dr. McEntire earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine in Little Rock. He completed his general surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, while serving in the U.S. Army. He went on to complete a vascular surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Vascular Surgery.

He lives in Tallahassee with his wife, two daughters and two dogs—and when he’s not in scrubs, you might find him enjoying time on the water or grabbing a bite with his family at Midtown Caboose.
We sat down with Dr. McEntire to learn more about his career journey, what keeps him motivated and a few fun facts that make him who he is. Here’s what he had to say.
1. Can you share your background and what inspired you to pursue a medical career?
Dr. McEntire: I’ve always wanted to be a doctor—specifically, a surgeon. Even in high school, it was the only career I considered. I chose my college with that dream in mind. Science and biology just made sense to me, and honestly, I had fun learning them.
2. Why did you choose vascular surgery?
Dr. McEntire: Interestingly, I didn’t start in vascular surgery. I was a general surgeon for several years before deciding to specialize further. I wanted to grow my knowledge and skills, and vascular surgery offered that challenge. It’s been a fulfilling path.
3. What is your favorite part of being a vascular surgeon?
Dr. McEntire: Seeing patients improve after procedures is what I enjoy most. Vascular disease can really impact someone’s quality of life and being able to help them feel better is incredibly rewarding.
4. Do you have a favorite vascular procedure or technology?
Dr. McEntire: I truly love it all—whether it’s endovascular or open surgical procedures. They’re all part of the work we do to help patients, and each has its place.
5. Has your medical philosophy or approach to patient care evolved over the years?
Dr. McEntire: Absolutely. I continue to learn every day about how to better treat vascular disease. That ongoing learning shapes how I care for my patients.
6. Is being a vascular surgeon different than you imagined it would be?
Dr. McEntire: That’s a tough one. You don’t really know what a job is like until you’re doing it. But I will say this—it’s both challenging and fulfilling in ways I couldn’t have predicted.
7. Do you have any hobbies?
Dr. McEntire: I enjoy exercising and being active. Water sports are a favorite too—I love spending time on the lake or out on the ocean.
8. What is your favorite movie or television show?
Dr. McEntire: Back to the Future—hands down. It’s been my favorite since I was a kid, and if it’s ever on TV, I’m watching it.
9. What advice would you give young physicians or medical students starting in your specialty?
Dr. McEntire: Be dedicated. Be determined. Be committed. Medical training will challenge you every day—it’s not easy. But if you truly want to become something, don’t give up.
10. What's your favorite thing about working at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare?
Dr. McEntire: TMH feels like a community. Everyone here is working toward the same goal: taking care of people and improving lives.

12. What is your favorite thing about Tallahassee?
Dr. McEntire: The natural beauty—the trees and canopy roads are truly something special.
13. Favorite restaurant in town?
Dr. McEntire: There are a lot of great options, but my family’s go-to is Midtown Caboose. We always enjoy it.
