Designation Recognizes TMH's Comprehensive Care Model for Weight Loss, Metabolic Health Conditions

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022) – TMH Physician Partners – Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes has received the highest designation possible and is now one of only four Comprehensive Centers with Obesity Medicine Qualifications in the state of Florida. This accreditation comes from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®) and acknowledges TMH’s commitment to providing excellent weight-related and metabolic care.

“We pride ourselves in providing multidisciplinary care for patients seeking help with obesity and metabolic health conditions,” Angelina Cain, MD, Obesity Medicine Director at TMH Physician Partners - Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes, said. “This designation exemplifies the hard work that our registered dietitians, personal trainers, medical staff, mental health counselors and all team members provide every day.”

For patients in Tallahassee and throughout the region struggling with obesity and metabolic health conditions, TMH Physician Partners - Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes offers a host of options from nutrition guidance and support groups to bariatric surgery. Obesity affects nearly half of the U.S. population and is often linked to other conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.

With TMH having recently received bariatric surgery accreditation from the MBSAQIP, this new designation is another example of TMH’s commitment to helping patients with weight and other related conditions.

“Our comprehensive bariatric surgery program at TMH includes not only surgery but individualized services from the team at TMH Physician Partners - Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes,” Joey Jarrard, MD, Medical Director for bariatric surgery said. “The collaboration between my team and TMH Physician Partners - Endocrinology, Obesity & Diabetes ensures long-term patient success and sets our program apart from others who treat surgery as a quick fix to obesity without providing support from dietitians, mental health counselors and others.”

The MBSAQIP is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

MBSAQIP standards and accreditation ensure that TMH’s bariatric surgery patients receive multidisciplinary medical care, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success.
