MATERNAL-FETAL MEDICINE PHYSICIAN RETIRES AFTER 18 YEARS AT TMH

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Friday, May 16, 2025) – After 18 years of dedicated service, Roderick F Hume, Jr., MD has retired from TMH Physician Partners - Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Hume has been involved in the practice of women's health since 1980. He has been a trusted provider for high-risk pregnancies, offering compassionate and expert care to countless patients at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) since 2007. His contributions have made a lasting impact on both the community and the colleagues who have had the privilege of working alongside him. He has shaped countless aspiring sonographers, FSU undergraduates, medical students, residents and fellows in the A.D. Brickler OB Fellowship through the Tallahassee Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program.

Many may not know, but Dr. Hume's first exposure to TMH was during his senior year as an FSU undergraduate, upon acceptance into the Program in Medical Sciences (PIMS). He credits A.D. Brickler, MD with planting the seed that grew into his interest in Pregnancy and Women's Health, saying, "A.D. was one of the rare physicians openly supportive of PIMS, whose example was embedded in the critical importance of service to the families in Florida."

Dr. Hume retired from the US Army Medical Corps active duty in 2001, where he joined civilian academic medicine in Rockford, Illinois. He then rejoined the faculty at Wayne State University as the Director of Genetics, Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy and the Department of OBGYN in Detroit. He was drawn back to Tallahassee by the opportunity at TMH for the expansion of Maternal Fetal Services and to be closer to family.

As he steps into this new chapter, Dr. Hume looks forward to spending more time with his family. While his presence at TMH will be greatly missed, his legacy will continue through the lives he has touched and the many professionals he has mentored along the way. We extend our deepest gratitude for his years of service and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.
