TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2026) – Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) has reached a major milestone, completing 15,000 robotic-assisted surgeries utilizing Intuitive’s da Vinci Surgical Systems. TMH is the first hospital in the region to achieve this accomplishment, reflecting its longstanding commitment to providing advanced, minimally invasive surgical care close to home.
Robotic-assisted surgery allows surgeons to perform complex procedures using small incisions with enhanced precision, offering patients significant benefits compared to traditional open surgery, including less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
“Reaching 15,000 robotic surgeries marks a significant milestone for our surgical teams,” said Joey Jarrard, MD, FACS, FASMBS, General Surgeon and Chair of the Robotic Steering Committee at TMH. “This accomplishment reflects TMH’s ongoing commitment to advancing surgical technology and delivering exceptional, high-quality care to the patients we serve.”
TMH first introduced robot-assisted surgery utilizing the da Vinci Surgical System more than a decade ago and has since expanded the program across multiple specialties, including general surgery, gynecology, urology, cardiothoracic and more. The milestone highlights not only the growth of the program, but also the expertise and collaboration of the surgeons, nurses and operating room teams who make these procedures possible.
“This milestone represents far more than a number — it reflects of our continued dedication to innovation and clinical excellence,” said Logan Van Wagenen, Vice President of Operations. “We’re proud to offer advanced robotic surgical technology that allows patients throughout our region to receive leading-edge care close to home.”
TMH recognized the milestone during a special celebration honoring the surgical teams and staff who have contributed to the success of the robotic surgery program.
In 2021, TMH became the first hospital in the region to earn the Robotic Center of Excellence accreditation by the Surgical Review Corporation. Status as an accredited organization ensures TMH has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality healthcare.
