Fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon Joey Jarrard, MD, FACS, FASMBS will lead TMH’s Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Care

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 29, 2026) – Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) announced that Joey Jarrard, MD, FACS, FASMBS, has been named the Medical Director of Obesity Medicine and Bariatric Surgery for TMH’s Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Care.

A board-certified, fellowship-trained general surgeon, Dr. Jarrard brings advanced expertise in bariatric, foregut and reflux disease, and advanced robotic surgery to the role. As Medical Director, he will lead the continued development and growth of TMH’s comprehensive weight loss program, providing patients throughout North Florida and South Georgia access to evidence-based obesity medicine, advanced surgical care and long-term support.

“Dr. Jarrard is a nationally recognized leader in bariatric surgery and obesity medicine whose expertise, leadership and patient-centered approach make him exceptionally well-suited to lead this program,” said Logan Van Wagenen, Vice President of Operations at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. “As we continue growing access to specialized weight loss care in our region, his vision will help shape a program designed to improve health outcomes and quality of life for our patients.”

Dr. Jarrard earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his surgical residency at Mercer University/Medical Center at Navicent Health. He went on to complete an advanced fellowship training at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, specializing in minimally invasive and robotic bariatric and foregut surgery.

A Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Dr. Jarrard has been designated a Surgeon of Excellence in hernia, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, reflecting his commitment to exceptional surgical outcomes, patient safety, and adherence to nationally recognized best practices.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Jarrard is a respected advocate for improving access to obesity care nationwide. Through his leadership and involvement with the ASMBS, he has helped contribute to efforts aimed at expanding insurance coverage, reducing barriers to treatment and advancing policies that support comprehensive, long-term obesity care.
