TMH Earns 2026 Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI and Resuscitation
October 5, 2026American College of Cardiology recognizes TMH as the only hospital in the Big Bend with the highest level of chest pain center accreditation
Tallahassee, Fla. — Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) has once again earned Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI and Resuscitation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC). TMH is the only hospital in the Big Bend region with ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI and Resuscitation, the highest level of accreditation for chest pain centers.
The accreditation recognizes TMH’s commitment to providing timely, coordinated care for patients experiencing serious cardiac emergencies, including heart attacks and cardiac arrest. It follows a rigorous onsite review of the hospital’s cardiovascular care, emergency response, quality improvement, patient and community education, resuscitation capabilities and collaboration with emergency medical services.
“For patients experiencing a severe heart attack, every minute matters,” shared Interventional Cardiologist, Thaer Musa, MD. “Our ability to restore blood flow for at least 95% of these patients within the 90-minute national benchmark reflects the coordination across our entire team – from quickly identifying the heart attack in the emergency room to getting the patient into the cardiac catheterization lab for treatment.”
TMH’s Primary PCI designation recognizes its ability to provide percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), around the clock for patients experiencing ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a severe type of heart attack. PCI restores blood flow by opening blocked coronary arteries, helping limit damage to the heart muscle.
“When a patient arrives with a serious cardiac emergency, they are trusting us during one of the most frightening moments of their lives,” said Alex Ho, MD, Medical Director of Emergency Medicine. “Our partnership with local emergency medical services allows us to quickly evaluate the patient, activate our cardiovascular team and move them toward the best treatment without delay.”
The accreditation also reflects TMH’s commitment to supporting patients beyond the initial emergency. Through recovery, rehabilitation, education and follow-up care, TMH helps patients improve their heart health and reduce their risk of future cardiac events. This continuum of care is supported by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, emergency medical professionals and other specialists. The accreditation process was led by Chest Pain Center Coordinator Mallory Meadows, RN, CCRN, and Dr. Musa, reflecting TMH’s continued commitment to advancing cardiovascular care throughout the region.
This reaccreditation builds on TMH’s other national cardiovascular distinctions, including the ACC’s HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence and recognition as a Modern Healthcare 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation.
Chest pain should never be ignored. Anyone experiencing possible symptoms of a heart attack should call 9-1-1 immediately.
