Haugabrook’s impact on the hospital’s history and culture celebrated with an event and commemorative plaque
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 17, 2026) – Today, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) held an event posthumously recognizing the career and impact of Eddie Lee Haugabrook, former Senior Vice President of Human Resources and the first Black administrator at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Haugabrook was named the first “TMH Legacy” honoree, a new recognition program that highlights long-term colleagues who make a profound impact on the organization and community through leadership.
As the final administrator of Florida A&M University Hospital at the time of its closure, Mr. Haugabrook played a critical role during the transition, helping to bridge uncertainty as the two hospitals integrated and ensuring that Black physicians, staff, and patients felt welcome and supported.
“There’s no one more deserving of this first ‘Legacy’ honor than Eddie Lee Haugabrook,” shared Mark O’Bryant, CEO of TMH. “During his 35 years of service, Eddie led in several roles here at TMH that shaped our values and culture. We are honored to have had him as a colleague and friend to so many during his tenure.”
Mr. Haugabrook held several leadership roles at TMH, including Director of Purchasing, Vice President of Materials Management and Senior Vice President of Human Resources. He was also a veteran, a member of First Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, and an active member of the NAACP and Urban League. A plaque recognizing his impact will be hung in the main hospital hallway near the Gift Shop.
“Eddie was the heart and soul of this hospital,” said Bob Lovell, a longtime colleague and friend. “His leadership helped shape TMH into what it is today. He mentored, encouraged and believed in hundreds of people, helping them grow into leaders and find their place at TMH.”
