TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 25, 2026) – Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) has received a Silver Milestone Recognition by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) Echocardiography for reaching 25 consecutive years of accreditation, demonstrating a long-term commitment to continuously improving patient outcomes and safety.
Every three-year cycle, accredited facilities undergo an intensive application and review process for re-accreditation, with an assessment conducted by a panel of medical experts. The IAC accreditation process enables both the critical operational and technical components of the applicant facility to be assessed, including representative case studies and their corresponding final reports.

“This recognition reflects Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s unwavering commitment to delivering the highest standards of cardiovascular care for our community. Achieving 25 years of IAC Echocardiography accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our clinical teams, who continuously strive to improve patient outcomes through advanced technology, rigorous quality standards and compassionate care,” said Lisa Mullee, Director of Cardiovascular Labs at TMH.

Echocardiography is used to assess different areas of the heart and can detect heart disease or signs of serious cardiovascular conditions. IAC accreditation assesses the many factors that contribute to an accurate echocardiography diagnosis. The training and experience of the sonographer performing the procedure, the type of equipment used, and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure all contribute to a positive patient outcome.

Several studies have demonstrated the impact of IAC accreditation on patient care. Specific to echocardiography, research indicates better image quality and greater adherence to guidelines for quantifying aortic stenosis at IAC-accredited facilities. In addition, IAC-accredited echocardiography facilities have more complete reports and are more likely to communicate pertinent examination findings and demographic information.

“IAC proudly honors long-time accredited echocardiography facilities through our milestone recognition program. Since being incorporated in 1997 as the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL), now known as IAC Echocardiography, has supported thousands of facilities in standardizing their processes to enhance patient care and provide improved outcomes. The facilities we recognize are true champions of quality. The milestone recognition reflects the unwavering dedication and hard work of their staff, who consistently show their commitment to providing safe, effective and compassionate care by using accreditation as a quality metric. Their ongoing commitment to quality patient care sets a commendable example for other health care providers, serving as a vital reminder of the importance of prioritizing patients and continuously striving to improve the quality of care provided,” said Tanya K. Tolpegin, IAC CEO.

Patients, referring physicians and insurers look for the IAC seal of accreditation as the ‘gold standard’ in the field of echocardiography. Facilities that achieve IAC accreditation demonstrate a clear indicator that they provide a high-quality level of patient care. Data demonstrates that reports from IAC-accredited facilities provide a more complete representation of the patient’s cardiac status.
