Don and Frances Veller's Generosity Lives On

This year, the Don A. and Frances B. Veller Endowment provided funds for 15 nurses to take the Stroke Certified Registered Nurses Exam through the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses.

“Donors such as the Vellers help us invest in our people so we can continue to provide the best patient care possible,” said Allen Nigel, President of the TMH Foundation. “We are this region’s only comprehensive stroke center certified by the Joint Commission, the American Heart Association, and the American Stroke Association. We are proud of this certification and work hard to not only maintain, but exceed the standards required to keep it.”

It was in the late 1990s that Don had open heart surgery at TMH, which then, as now, was the region’s leader in heart care.

“We don’t have children, so we like giving to entities whose work we are interested in,” said Don in a 2004 interview. Frances added, “We are more than interested; we are grateful. Don experienced the benefits of excellent care at TMH.”

In that same 2004 interview, Thomas Bixler, MD, who performed Don’s surgery, said, “It is extremely satisfying to see how well Don is doing 17 years after his bypasses, and how he and Fran have chosen to show their gratitude through such a significant gift to the hospital.”

If, like the Vellers, you are interested in supporting patient care at TMH and ensuring your wishes continue long into the future, please call Anne Munson at the TMH Foundation. She can be reached at 850-431-5389.

For most people, continuing their legacy is as simple as leaving a gift in their will. Others may wish to explore additional options. If you have detailed questions and wish to speak to a financial planner, consult the list of professionals on our TMH Advisory Council
