Florida Bar Members Continue Support of the Rikki SuperPup Program at TMH

Thirteen-year-old rescue greyhound Tillie is an honorary Therapy Dog in the TMH Animal Therapy program, recognized for her support of the program through the sales of Tales of Tillie, her coffee table book of canine wit and wisdom.

This year, Tillie and co-author John Williams sent the book to animal-loving celebrities across the nation, inviting them to read to their own dogs in celebration of National Animal Therapy Day, which culminated in a video montage of the celebrities and their pets. Now Tillie has found a statewide fan club in the Florida Bar Animal Law Section: At this year’s conference, the Animal Law Section awarded Tillie their Rikki P. Mitchell Animal Achievement Award for providing exemplary service to the people of Florida.

Members of the Animal Law Section have been longtime supporters of TMH Animal Therapy. At this year’s Florida Bar conference, members pledged to continue their support of the “Rikki SuperPup Progam.” Thanks to their help, each year TMH Animal Therapy volunteers hand out hundreds of soft, plush toy golden retrievers to comfort children in the hospital, the courthouse, and even the classroom.

Gregg Morton, Chair of the Animal Law Section, explains, "Rikki Mitchell was a special dog and our section's connection with the TMH Animal Therapy Program goes back to our inception. Of our many initiatives, the Animal Law Section's support of the Rikki Doll program at Tallahassee Memorial is one of the most important and one that our members are particularly proud of continuing. Every time a child receives some comfort from one of these Rikki dolls, it makes us happy to have played a part in helping out with the program."
