Our Donors Make Animal Therapy Month Special!

animal therapyJuly is Animal Therapy Month at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH). Thanks to the support of our donors, not only are the lives of our patients touched, so are the lives of school children, emergency responders and others throughout our community who can benefit from the caring visit of one of our volunteers and their specially trained pets. Our donors make this possible!

This year alone, our volunteers and their therapy animals visited:

  • 2,500 TMH patients
  • 1,500 people in stressful jobs throughout our community
  • Hundreds of school children through the R.E.A.D Program
  • Victims of trauma and violent crimes

Our animal therapy volunteer teams visit more than 70 community organizations, including:

  • Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare
  • The Central Dispatch Center (911)
  • Local schools and libraries
  • Boys Town North Florida
  • Assisted living facilities and nursing homes
  • Hospice

As impressive as this is, the need is still great, and donor support will help us grow the program, touch more lives and improve the quality of life of more people throughout our region — our friends, family and neighbors.

“When people make a donation to the Animal Therapy program, they help more than just TMH and our patients. They help people in the many community organizations that our animal therapy volunteer teams visit,” said Stephanie Perkins, Director of the program.
