Patient and Family Advisors

Since 2014, we have involved patients and family members to partner with Tallahassee Memorial. Patient and Family Advisors help to bring the patient and family perspective to our work at TMH. Our patient and family volunteers work with our staff and other patients and families on a variety of councils, teams, programs and projects to help improve our service and the healthcare experience for everyone.

Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC)

“This [program] embodies our promise to provide our patients and their families with empathetic and compassionate care grounded in the latest evidence-based practices.”
-Mark O’Bryant, President/Chief Executive Officer

The Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) was established in January 2015. The purpose of the PFAC is to serve as a resource to leadership, colleagues and shared governance within Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH). The PFAC provides an opportunity for the organization to listen to their healthcare consumers and community members. This is an opportunity for patients and families to actively participate in the development of new programs and collaborate as partners with colleagues, physicians and leadership.

This council ensures a safe venue for patients and families to provide input into TMH’s processes and programs. It facilitates discussion regarding health care services within the context of TMH and the greater health care environment. Patients and family members also have an advisory role in providing feedback on relevant projects undertaken by TMH.

Patient and Family Advisory Council Mission

Ensuring the voice of the patients and family members is heard and their influence is felt in a meaningful way.

Patient and Family Advisory Council Vision

To keep Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) in the forefront of all TMH councils and committees.

The PFAC is comprised of patients, family members, and hospital staff working in partnership to assure delivery of the highest standard of patient- and family-centered culture and environment. The goals of the PFAC are:

  1. To promote the principles of patient-provider partnership and patient – and family-centered care at TMH
  2. To provide and communicate the unique perspective of the patient and family to the clinical and administrative leaders and colleagues at TMH
  3. To provide advice, consultation, evaluation and recommendations, when solicited, regarding programs, educational efforts, and operational initiatives that affect patients and families at TMH

Participation as a member of this Council gives Patient and Family Advisors a voice in the process as TMH continues its evolution towards and increasingly patient-centered care delivery system. If you or a family member is interested in serving on this Council, please complete the steps in the application process to become a volunteer.
