Your surgery will take place in the M.T. Mustian Center, located at the corner of Miccosukee Road and Medical Drive on Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare's main campus at 1300 Miccosukee Road.
Please bring your TMH Hip and Knee Replacement Education Book and a small bag of personal items, including:
- Comfortable clothing such as loose-fitting pants, shorts or a house dress to fit easily over the bulky dressing
- Well-fitting, flat shoes (avoid shoes with no backs, such as slip-ons or flip-flops)
- Glasses instead of contact lenses. If you must wear contacts, please bring a container to store them during surgery
- Your device identification card if you have a pacemaker or automatic internal cardiac defibrillator (AICD), unless it was already provided at your preoperative appointment
If you are staying overnight, you may also want to bring:
- Mobile phone and charger
- Personal care items such as a toothbrush and deodorant
- CPAP mask, if you use one
- Activities to pass the time, such as reading material or crossword puzzles
Some surgeons may prescribe an InfuBlock Continuous Peripheral Nerve Block for total knee replacement patients to help manage post-operative pain.
If your pump alarms or stops working, please refer to the manual or call InfuBlock’s 24/7 Nursing Hotline at 1-844-724-6123.
Tips for daily infusion pump use:
- Do not get the pump wet. Do not shower; you may take a sponge bath.
- The pump will automatically deliver a continuous amount of medication through the small tubing to keep your nerve numb.
- Be careful not to wiggle or pull the tubing, as this could dislodge it from the targeted nerve site.
- The pump screen should be visible through the window of your carrying case. The screen will appear blank; to light it, press the select button.
- Begin taking your oral pain medication as directed by your physician at the first sign of discomfort.
Proper nutrition plays an important role in your recovery. Eating balanced meals with adequate protein, staying well hydrated and supporting your body with the right nutrients can help promote healing, maintain strength and reduce the risk of complications.
If you have specific dietary restrictions or medical conditions, please follow your provider’s instructions or speak with your care team.
For detailed guidance — including recommended foods, portion suggestions and tips to support healing — please refer to the Nutrition After Joint Replacement Surgery guide provided in your Hip & Knee Replacement Education materials.
