PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL Program


This residency is a combined PGY-1 and PGY-2 in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL). The PGY-1 curriculum closely follows that of the PGY-1 residency program (see PGY-1 program description). The PGY-2 year is comprised of a wide range of leadership experiences to provide the resident with an enriching experience working closely with the assistant directors, the director of pharmacy, and executives in the organization.

  • Finance & Budgeting
  • Specialty Pharmacy Administration
  • Ambulatory Care Administration
  • Clinical Pharmacy Administration
  • Supply Chain & Procurement
  • Human Resources

III. Electives Rotations

  • Pharmacy Consultant Management
  • Pharmacy Operations
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation Pharmacy Leadership
  • Any PGY-1 Elective Rotation

IV. Longitudinal Rotations/Projects 

  • Operational Service Requirement 
    ◦ Staffing in the main pharmacy as the Pharmacist-in-Charge every 4th weekend
  • Research Project 
    ◦ Resident-led quality improvement project resulting in a prepared presentation at the Florida Residency Conference
  • Patient Safety 
    ◦ Anticoagulation, Medication Safety, and Antimicrobial Stewardship subcommittees
  • Formulary Management 
    ◦ Leading formulary reviews and medication use evaluations 
    ◦ Preparing & Leading the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee meetings
  • Professional Development 
    ◦ ASHP Leaders Conference 
    ◦ ASHP Midyear Conference 
    ◦ Vizient Clinical Conference

V. Transition period of 4 weeks (or multiple 1-week blocks)
