Pediatric Neuropsychology

We’re home to the Panhandle’s first and most comprehensive Pediatric Neuropsychology program, serving patients in Leon County and beyond.

What is Pediatric Neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology is a branch of psychology that studies how a person's cognition and behavior are related to the brain and the rest of the nervous system. In the pediatric population, neuropsychologists are specially trained to evaluate children who have medical or neurodevelopmental conditions affecting their cognitive function.

What is Neuropsychological Testing?

Standardized tests are used to measure your child’s neurodevelopmental progress and to characterize cognitive areas of strength and weakness. Testing is available for children ages 3-17 and measures a wide variety of mental abilities that are based on different areas of the brain and their interconnections.

How Is Your Child Evaluated?

  • We will conduct an initial interview with parents only, please do not bring your child or their siblings.
  • On a separate day, we will conduct your child’s testing. Testing will be completed in one appointment that lasts approximately 4 hours.
  • Many tests are administered by technicians, under the direct supervision of Dr. Moltisanti.

What to Expect During Your Child’s Evaluation

  • Plan for your child to be tested for 4 hours.
  • Your child must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Your child should be well rested and fully alert at the time of testing.
  • Remember to bring your child’s glasses, hearing aids and other assistive devices.
  • Bring comfort items such as your child’s favorite blanket, stuffed animal, action figure, etc.
  • Administer or bring your child’s regularly scheduled medications.
  • Bring your child’s favorite snacks, beverages, etc.
  • Please arrange to have all relevant medical records, school records and previous psychological evaluations sent to the clinic before your appointment. If needed records are not received, this could delay completion of your report.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to all appointments for check-in. Late arrival may result in rescheduling.
  • Results are typically provided in a feedback session, held two weeks after the last day of testing.
  • A written report, including results, diagnostic impressions and recommendations, is typically made available within 30 days of the feedback session.

A referral from your child’s pediatrician is needed. Don’t have a primary care provider? Check out our TMH Physician Partners practices.
